About this example
Four zeros and one value of 10 produce a zero-IQR group: the box collapses to a line and 10 lies outside the fences. It remains an observation in the figure and numeric range rather than being deleted.
The singleton group has only one measurement and therefore shows a point without a box. Compare its sample count with the ordinary group before drawing conclusions about distribution shape or variability.
The data
| Ties | Singleton | Ordinary |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 5 | 1 |
| 0 | 2 | |
| 0 | 3 | |
| 0 | 4 | |
| 10 | 6 |
Columns contain individual observations. Type-7 quartiles and observed 1.5-IQR whiskers do not constitute a significance test. Open the example, replace the data with your own, and export the figure as SVG, PDF, PNG or TIFF.
